Understanding the mind.
Advancing the conversation.

MIND UofT is an interdisciplinary student community connecting students with the research, researchers, and conversations shaping our understanding of neurodegenerative disease and brain health.

Who We Are

Neurodegeneration is not one problem — and it will not be solved by one discipline.

MIND brings together students across neuroscience, molecular biology, psychology, medicine, computational biology, engineering, and related disciplines to better understand the biological and human dimensions of neurological disease.

Our Mission

Bridging the gap between students and neuroscience research.

MIND UofT provides undergraduate students with opportunities to learn directly from researchers and clinicians, critically engage with emerging science, discover research pathways, and become part of an interdisciplinary community interested in brain health and neurodegenerative disease.

01

Learn

Explore current neuroscience and neurodegeneration research beyond the classroom.

02

Connect

Meet professors, graduate students, clinicians, researchers, industry professionals, and other students interested in brain health.

03

Discuss

Engage critically with emerging research through journal clubs, speaker discussions, conferences, and interdisciplinary conversations.

04

Explore

Discover pathways into neuroscience research, medicine, biotechnology, graduate studies, and related careers.

05

Engage

Connect scientific research with patients, aging, caregiving, healthcare, and the broader community.

What We Do

Research, education, and community — brought together.

All initiatives

Journal Clubs

Tri-weekly discussions exploring contemporary research in neuroscience and neurodegenerative disease.

Students learn how to critically read scientific literature and discuss emerging work in areas such as disease pathology, therapeutic approaches, and the psycho-philosophical implications of neurodegenerative disorders.

Speaker Series

Conversations with University of Toronto researchers, clinicians, graduate students, and professionals.

These events expose students to both the science and the people behind current neuroscience research.

Flagship Initiative

Conferences & Research Symposia

An annual conference each winter semester and additional summer events combine scientific talks, lab tours, student and career panels, and networking — with opportunities to explore pathways into neuroscience.

Explore the Conference

Community Outreach

Connecting neuroscience education with the communities affected by aging and neurological disease.

MIND partners with local care homes and community organizations on patient-facing initiatives and awareness programs, and works to address the challenges faced by geriatric patients in healthcare.

Skill-Building & Career Exploration

Workshops and events help students learn about the many paths into neuroscience-related careers.

Sessions cover undergraduate research, graduate school, medicine, scientific communication, research skills, biotechnology, and interdisciplinary career pathways.

MIND Conference — Most Recent

Neurodegeneration Research Symposium and Career Exploration

MIND UofT's flagship conference brought together faculty researchers, graduate researchers, and industry professionals for two days of interdisciplinary dialogue and career exploration. The program featured a career panel on the crossroads of education and industry, and a student research panel spanning pharmaceutical sciences, laboratory medicine and pathology, biomedical engineering, and medicine.
